Installation Hints for Vista Computers

OnyxCeph™ can be used on Computers running Microsoft Vista OS without restrictions. However, when installing you need to pay attention to the following issues:

Server: When installing OnyxCeph™ on a Vista Server PC or performing another task that requires admin privileges, you need to confirm these privileges. Other than on XP machines, you will not be seen as administrator by default when launching a program by left doubleclick even if you are logged in as such. Instead, you need to right-click on the component to be lauched and select "run as administrator" from the context menu.
This is especially important when launching the OnyxDBServer (as recommended: as service) on the Server PC.

Clients: Another specific of Vista is that the root directory may be write protected. Because in version OnyxCeph™ 2.7 the BDE (Borland Database Engine) is still required to be installed on each client for cephalometric measurements, you need to change the default NET DIR of BDE to a write enabled folder. We recommend to use c:\temp or c:\tmp.
To change these settings, open link BDE Administrator on the Control Panel and set NET DIR to (ex) c:\temp or c:\tmp on Tab Configuration: Configuration| Drivers| Native| PARADOX.
